SMART GROUNDWATER MONITORING SYSTEM

Groundwater resources in the lower valley of Medjerda are under increasing stress as there is a rapid growth in their usage. Water managers need more timely and accurate data to assess ground-water conditions to manage adverse situations such as drought and loss of pumpage in agriculture and domestic water supply.

GIS Platform Modelling

Effective management and protection of groundwater resources require detail knowledge and quantitative/qualitative characterization of aquifers. Thus, modeling and planning of the GW through the use of modern technologies and approaches have become of high priority towards this direction.

Actor’s Involvement & Participatory Approach

Governance systems for IWRM require integrated approaches to social, economic, and environmental aspects, as well as appropriate modalities for stakeholder’s participation. In this context, efficient participation of different actors in managing water resources has been defined as one of the sustainable water management principles.

“Improving Sustainable Groundwater Management of the Lower valley of Medjerda basin” is the Research & Development project funded by the PEER cycle 7 program (NAS_USAID) and led by the Higher School of Engineers of Medjez El Bab (ESIM) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
